Who am I?

My name is Megan Trinkle-Knotts (formerly Tucker), and I am a seasoned, board-certified genetic counselor with nearly 20 years of experience across prenatal, pediatric, psychiatric, cancer, and general genetics. I have continuously expanded my expertise in this dynamic field to meet evolving patient needs. I’ve contributed to statewide initiatives like stillbirth evaluation programs and led efforts to streamline genetic referrals for babies with life-limiting conditions, all with a focus on improving patient outcomes.

Prior to my work in genetic counseling, I taught high school biology, which sparked my passion for education and has fueled my ongoing work in higher education for the past 10 years. At Bay Path University, I developed and now coordinate a cutting-edge genetic counseling training program, including overseeing fieldwork placements for students. This role has allowed me to be at the forefront of shaping the next generation of genetic counselors, ensuring they are equipped to provide compassionate, expert care.

As I pivot to private practice, I’m excited about offering patients personalized genetic counseling and genetic testing services. This new chapter gives me the flexibility to provide direct care, making a significant and positive impact on individual health outcomes. I’m driven by my commitment to improving access to genetic services and enhancing the patient experience,

Where did the name MKGenetix come from?

The “MK” portion of the name is for Mary Kay, my mother. When I was a child, she passed away from colon cancer at the young age of 40. She is part of my inspiration to go into the field of genetics in the first place because being diagnosed with cancer at a young age increases the chance that it is the result of an inherited predisposition. We will never know if there was an inherited link to her cancer because cancer genetics didn’t exist as a field in the ’80s. However, now it is one of the largest fields of genetic counseling, helping families understand their medical history, implications for themselves, and their future families every day.

The “genetix” portion is simply a play on the spelling of genetics. So together, the name is to honor her memory.
